Seed learns talent is great but pizza is king. Thursday, September 2, 12 noon in the parking lot, City Centre presents ‘Veggie Deluxe’, with special guests Shelly Rastin. (Sorry Rastin fans, we’ve recently learned the power of pizza.) London’s iconic business address is pleased to present the final 2010 City Sizzles Summer Concert in its lunchtime gig program. It’s a community appreciation thing and tenants and neighbours throughout the core are welcome to attend and soak up some great music and sun, with a free slice if you get to it quickly enough. Attendance, we’re pleased to say has basically doubled for this year’s presentations thanks to our partnership with Stobie’s, purveyors of pizza — who graciously provide free slices for 125-150 people at every show. Toss in a beverage on City Centre and we have a winning formula to tear folks away from their desks for the lunch hour. This year’s series kicked off with a fabulous salute to Paul from The McCartney Years, followed by high-energy Fanshawe faves Two Crown King who paved the way for the Indie Talent day. All great presentations with something for everyone. Wrapping up September 2nd will be local favourite Shelly Rastin who, with co-writer D’Arcy Corbett have worked on past tracks with Canadian legend Randy Bachman. Think about it: the nights are getting colder, frost is only a month away…why not spend one of your last beautiful, warm lunch hours out of doors with a slice and great music? Join us at City Centre, in the parking lot at the corner of Dundas and Wellington, September 2 at noon…it’ll be a good time!

One of our favourite projects this year – and clients certainly – is CarProof; Canada’s leading Vehicle History Report service. We were introduced late in 2009 and began development on the reskin of their website. Working closely with their internal IT/code teams we were able to learn enough about CarProof to make valuable observations and provide solid design solutions that improve GUI and functionality. Part of the scope of the project included a new Report structure to highlight and separate information for a more user-friendly result. CarProof provides consumers and industry with the necessary data to make the most informed decision possible about a used car purchase or transaction via direct ‘live’ links to all the necessary data sources. The difference being the live aspect, whereas similar services generally draw upon data that can be outdated or totally invalid. The shortcomings of major competitors to CarProof and the quality of CarProof’s data has been highlighted on several Networks including CTV, CBC and CityTV on programs like CityLine, W5 and MarketPlace. As a result of this thorough approach the company’s reports have become the preferred choice of used vehicle Dealers across Canada. Our advice: don’t sign the paperwork until you run a CarProof VIN check. View the latest television spots here.

Under the direction of client Megan Cornwell, Seed collaborated with Rachel Lincoln for photography and Tony Why of Why Design to achieve arresting, bigger-than-life, images of real people to be displayed in various businesses and agencies around the city.

The goal is to place them in areas outside of the Centre’s typical service area over the next 12 weeks. By doing so, LIHC is able to engage the greater community and shine a light on individuals impacted by poverty, isolation, language, racism or the lack of affordable food and housing. The Centre’s well rounded team offers doctors, nurses, social workers, dieticians, mental health nurses, psychologists, psychiatrists and community workers.Although LIHC has provided services to Londoners for the past 20 years, the average Londoner is unaware of the value and positive impact the Centre has on its clientele. With clients that typically tend to be marginalized individuals, they don’t tend to be ’seen’ by the broader population. With this campaign and hopefully increased awareness, the Centre strives to bring the greater community together to address the significant challenges faced by so many in our community. Seed has been proud to offer reduced fee services and pro-bono support to LIHC for the past two years.

The group is Canada’s largest independent non-profit wine purchasing cooperative. With more than 19,000 members from coast to coast to coast, Opimian operates as a procurement and distribution cooperative, where all members benefit from its nationwide purchasing power regardless of their province of residence. With direct relationships with vineyards across the country and overseas they offer Canadians access to product exclusive to its members and not available through any of the provincial liquor boards. While our relationship is in its infancy we’re always excited to meet new faces and challenges and rise to their needs. We’ve begun with print collateral and electronic marketing support and look forward to exploring the relationship further in 2010.

It might be copy we’re thrilled with, a design challenge that we’re trying to solve or a media relations venture that exceeded our expectations. Regardless of the task our goal is to provide insights into our process while sharing some fun, failures or rewarding experiences. We welcome your comments! This month we’ll share a little bit about Redbourne Realty and Thales Rail Signalling Solutions (TRSS) – the biggest deal of 2009 in Toronto commercial real estate and Seed’s role in helping to get the word out.

Not many of us are used to working on one deal for a whole year but this seems to be the norm in big square footage commercial moves. Such was the case for our client Redbourne. After working on the details, logistics and security, Redbourne’s Allan Taylor was able to bring Thales – a leading international electronics and systems group serving defense, aerospace and security markets worldwide – to one of its properties in the GTA. Situated in Paris, France Thales is the subcontractor under Accenture to supply the Greater Toronto Area transit network with an integrated secure ticketing system. All the usual tools were employed for this exercise and the results were very impressive. After posting to the Canada News Wire the story was picked up as far away as European Union newsprint and online dailies, as well as dominating Google searches and Twitter feeds for roughly a week. Sound bytes included Toronto Mayor David Miller, President and CEO Bruno Cohades of TRSS, Allan Taylor, Redbourne Senior Vice President of Leasing in Ontario and the 190,000 sq ft achievement garnered great coverage from all of Canada’s major dailies. Special mention is attributed to Jill Wright for her role working with Rob as Media Relations for Seed.
